Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Kramat Jati Indonesian National Police (INP) Hospital confirmed on Sunday (11/3/2024) it has received 11 body bags containing victims from the recent fire at a livestock feed factory in Bekasi, including one box with body parts.
Senior Superintendent Ahmad Fauzi, the Head of the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team, said that the condition of the bodies makes visual identification impossible. He highlighted the need for scientific methods, particularly DNA testing, to ensure accurate identification.
“We cannot identify the victims visually, so we require scientific methods to reduce the risk of errors,” he explained.
Currently, the team has collected 23 post-mortem DNA samples for comparison with the identified victims and 12 ante-mortem samples from nine families who reported missing relatives.
Fauzi noted that there have been no additional reports of body bags found at the fire scene. The team is monitoring the site for any further victims while continuing to gather more ante-mortem data from families to aid in the identification process.
