The investigation team of the Indonesian National Police (INP) has upgraded the status of the case of the explosion at the nickel smelter furnace of PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS) in Morowali Regency in Central Sulawesi, which claimed the lives of 21 workers.
Central Sulawesi Regional Police Head of Public Relations Unit, Senior Superintendent Djoko Wienarno said that the incident was suspected of violating standard operating procedures (SOPs), prompting investigators to upgrade the case to an official investigation.
"The results of the case will be reviewed this afternoon," he said on Wednesday (3/12/2024).
The spokesperson revealed the status was imposed after investigators conducted a crime scene investigation and interviewed several witnesses and experts. Indonesian criminal justice system commences with an inquiry process and an investigation process before the prosecution.
"With the escalation of this case to the investigation stage, it will become a pro justitia case and will be presented as evidence in court," he explained.
