Puncak Jaya Sub-Regional Police have initiated an investigation into the shooting of 35-year-old Jermanto Simanjuntak, which took place in front of his kiosk in Pruleme village, Mulia District, Puncak Jaya Regency, on October (23/10/23) at 6:50 pm. The Head of Papua Regional Police's Public Relations Unit, Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, explained that the victim and his wife were having a meal when they heard an unidentified person knocking on the victim's kiosk. "Despite the kiosk being closed at the time, the perpetrator knocked with the intent of purchasing cigarettes," he said on Wednesday (1/11/23). Upon opening the door, the perpetrator pointed a firearm at the victim, firing a single shot that struck the victim's right jaw. The victim's wife sought help to transport him to the nearby Mulia Hospital. Despite efforts by members of the Puncak Jaya Sub-Regional Police to rush him for medical treatment, the victim was pronounced death. The Puncak Jaya Sub-Regional Police continued their investigation of the case and intensified patrols around Mulia District. (ar/ay/pr/nm)
