Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Aceh Regional Police have listed another 21 rejection of Rohingya immigrants in the western part of Indonesia within the last month.
The Head of General Information Partner Affairs of Aceh Regional Police, Police Senior Superintendent Yasir says the refusal was based on public’s concern of continuous waves of immigrants which has not properly handled by related stakeholders.
“From December 8th, 2023 to January 5th, 2024 we have listed 21 public rejections against the coming of Rohingya immigrants. The refusals are due to concern of Rohingya settlement in the region,” explained Yasir.
During the occasion, Yasir says the advent of Rohingya immigrants allegedly also involved human trafficking syndicate as there have been 24 cases uncovered related to the criminal actions.
Furthermore, of the 24 cases, 45 suspects linked to the syndicate have been apprehended by the police.
“Therefore, there needs to be strong awareness with these human trafficking cases behind the waves of Rohingya Immigrants to Aceh. These steps are to prevent any social issues that could disrupt safety and order of the region,” explained Yasir.
Moreover, Yasir also clarifies that Indonesia is not part of the countries who ratified the 1951 Refugee Convention which makes Indonesia not obliged to accommodate the immigrants.
