inp.polri.go.id - Jember. The Jember Sub-regional Police are following up on a report of alleged blasphemy . Investigators will coordinate with the Jember Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to investigate the case related to the social media content.
The Head of the Specific Crimes Unit of the Jember Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Second Police Inspector Harry Sasono, stated that coordination with the MUI is necessary to help investigators understand the context of the reported case.
"Given its connection to alleged blasphemy, investigators will of course continue to coordinate with the Jember MUI to investigate the modus operandi of the reported party," Harry said in Jember on Sunday (10/4/2026).
According to Harry, the report concerns a man identified as a religious scholar with the initials AA, a Jember resident. Investigators are still investigating the report and gathering information from various parties.
"We have questioned several witnesses, including the reporting witness, and in the near future we will also question the reported witness. We are continuing to investigate this case," he said.
In addition to conducting an investigation, the Jember Sub-regional Police coordinated with the Sumberbaru Sector Police to anticipate potential disturbances to public order and security.
"We also urge residents not to be easily provoked by this case, as the police are still working to follow up on the matter," he said.
The case began with the circulation of a video on social media showing AA claiming to have met Allah SWT and the Prophet Muhammad SAW while conscious. This content caused unrest among a number of residents.
A group affiliated with Dekeng Nasional Tobat then reported the alleged blasphemy to the Jember Sub-regional Police on September 21, 2026.
Before filing the police report, the Sumberbaru District MUI, along with the community, attempted to seek clarification from AA at the Sumberbaru Sector Police. During the meeting, several parties suggested that AA apologize and remove the content in question.
The Head of the Sumberbaru MUI, M. Taufiq Syam, expressed his objection to the statement in the content.
"He dared to violate the consensus of Islamic scholars and interpret the Quran purely based on his own reasoning. Therefore, we requested that the content on his social media be removed, but he refused and remained steadfast in his position," said M. Taufiq Syam in his written report.
The police are still investigating the report by questioning witnesses and coordinating with relevant parties. The police also urge the public not to be provoked and to leave the case to law enforcement.
