inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Professor of Criminology at the University of Indonesia, Prof. Adrianus Meliala, assessed that the results of the Kompas Research and Development survey on the level of public trust in state institutions should be viewed as a constructive evaluation instrument for all institutions, including the Indonesian National Police (INP). He stated that public opinion surveys can serve as a reference for assessing public perception and encouraging improvements in the quality of service and professionalism of institutions.
Adrianus explained that survey results essentially reflect public perception over a specific period. Therefore, each institution needs to use these results as a basis for introspection and evaluation to continuously improve.
"Survey results should be used as evaluation material and input for each institution to continue making improvements, improving the quality of public services, and strengthening professionalism in carrying out its duties," said Adrianus in Jakarta, Monday (6/29/2026).
He added that the level of public trust in an institution is not static but is influenced by various factors. The public's direct experience in receiving services, coverage in the mass media and social media, and the institution's success in addressing various issues of public concern contribute to shaping public perception.
According to him, consistency in providing fast, transparent, accountable, and equitable services is key to maintaining and enhancing public trust in law enforcement institutions.
"Public trust will be strengthened if institutions are able to demonstrate consistency in providing fast, transparent, accountable, and equitable services. This is an important foundation for strengthening the institution's legitimacy in the eyes of the public," he said.
Furthermore, Adrianus reminded that survey results should not be viewed solely as a measure of an institution's success or failure. Instead, these results should be used as constructive feedback in formulating policies, improving service quality, and strengthening public communication.
