Inp.polri.go.id - Labuan Bajo. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that Indonesia is ready to talk to anyone, including the Junta and all stakeholders in Myanmar for humanitarian purposes. This was conveyed by the President during a press conference at the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

President Jokowi emphasized that harm to human values cannot be tolerated. The Five-point Consensus mandates that ASEAN must engage with all stakeholders.

"Inclusivity must be firmly held by ASEAN because ASEAN's credibility is at stake," the President explained, Thursday (11/5/23).

According to the President, engagement is important for Indonesia, not recognition. Approaching, the President explained, does not mean giving acknowledgment.

"So I said earlier at the meeting that ASEAN unity is very important," said the President.

He emphasized that without unity, other parties would easily divide ASEAN. The President also believes that none of the ASEAN countries wants this.

“No party inside or outside ASEAN should benefit from the internal conflict in Myanmar. Violence must stop and the people must be protected," said the President.
