"This is in line with the aim of ASEAN centrality so that ASEAN will become stronger and more independent," said President Joko Widodo.
Previously, in the agenda of the ASEAN Leaders' Interface with Representatives of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), all ASEAN member countries agreed to integrate the universally applicable QR Code payment service.
“For example, the ASEAN QR Code all agree. Between Indonesia and Thailand, with Singapore already, this will continue again in all of ASEAN. Just imagine as far as Myanmar, a QR Code is also prepared. This is the meaning of centrality, we will implement it, we will push it," said ASEAN-BAC Chairman Arsjad Rasjid.
During the meeting, Arsjad said that all heads of state agreed to QR Code services among ASEAN member countries, however, each country has its position.
"All agree (state leaders), but the position of each country is different. So if possible five, five first, six, six first, later all countries will eventually be able to enter," said Arsjad.
At the 42nd ASEAN Summit, Indonesia raised the theme "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth" which means ASEAN is relevant and important as a center for world growth, to strengthen ASEAN's institutional capacity and effectiveness, so that it can respond to challenges in the next 20 years.
This grand event also discussed ASEAN as a center of growth, with a large population and economic growth which is almost always above the average world economic growth, it is hoped that ASEAN will continue to be a center for economic growth that is inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.
