inp.polri.go.id - President Joko Widodo plans to visit China and meet President Xi Jinping at the end of July.
The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan announced the plan for Jokowi's visit after holding a meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, and Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Bali, last weekend.
"In front of the entire delegation of Indonesia and China, I and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi conveyed that the Global Maritime Fulcrum (Belt and Road Initiative/GMF-BRI) synergy, which is a policy of Indonesia and China, could immediately be extended to the GMF-BRI MoU agreement, so that it can be signed by President Jokowi during his visit to China which is planned to be carried out at the end of July 2022," Luhut said in his upload on Instagram.
GMF-BRI or OBOR itself is a program initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013. This program aims to build massive land, sea and air infrastructure to improve trade and economic routes between countries in Asia and beyond.
The advantage of this program itself is that it provides large funds for its members. China is even reported to have poured funds of US $ 150 billion or equivalent to Rp. 2,137.6 trillion per year. The funds can be borrowed by countries participating in the program to build their infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Wang Yi himself has been in Bali since last week to attend a two-day meeting of foreign ministers of G20 countries on Thursday (7/7).
After that, Wang Yi held a High Level Dialogue and Cooperation Mechanism (HDCM) meeting between Indonesia and China.
