Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has signed Law Number 6/204 on Village, as indicated in the website of the Legal Documentation and Information Network of the State Secretariat Ministry on Thursday (2/5/2024).

The Law was signed by the President on 25 April 2024, according to antaranews.com.

The revised Village Law includes changes to village chief terms and rehabilitation funds. Article 39 of the Law extends village chief terms to eight years, allowing for re-election twice. 

The law also sets candidate prerequisites, such as a minimum age of 25 and at least a junior high school education. Article 34A section 1 mandates a minimum of two candidates for village chief elections. 

The initiative to amend the Village Law began in May 2022, spearheaded by the Ministry of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration, to extend village chief terms. 

On 28 March 2024, following deliberations and plenary sessions in the House of Representatives (DPR),, the bill was endorsed into law.
