President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo set the target for the Nusantara Capital City Airport (IKN Airport) to be fully operational by 2024, following the recent groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday (1/11/23). Speaking at the inauguration of the IKN Airport construction in East Kalimantan, President Jokowi said, "Today, we embark on the groundbreaking for the construction of Nusantara Capital City Airport, with the objective of achieving full operational status by December 2024." The President went on to elaborate that while construction was anticipated to conclude in June 2024, official operations is to kick off in December of the same year, antaranews.com reported. The airport has been developed to support governmental functions and enhance connectivity within IKN. Spanning 347 hectares, the airport will boast a runway measuring 3,000 x 45 meters, capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft. In addition, IKN Airport will feature a spacious terminal covering 7,530 square meters, prioritizing passenger comfort. "The establishment of this airport will significantly enhance accessibility and connectivity throughout the IKN area, making it easily accessible from any location," the President asserted.
