President Prabowo Subianto officially appointed Prof. Arif Satria as Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (10/11/2025). 

Vice Admiral (ret) Prof. Amarulla Octavian was also sworn in as BRIN’s Deputy Head, as reported by antaranews.com. The appointment, stipulated in Presidential Decree No. 123/P/2025, marked the end of Laksana Tri Handoko’s tenure. 

“God willing, BRIN will support the President’s priority programs in food, energy, and water,” said Arif after his inauguration. “These three sectors must be backed by strong research and innovation because wherever research thrives, economic progress follows.”

He said BRIN would soon consolidate with ministries, universities, industries, and local governments to accelerate innovation in the three key areas. He also plans to expand the number of researchers, improve research quality, and strengthen talent management to attract young scientists.

Arif, currently serving his second term as Rector of Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), is a prominent scholar of political ecology and Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI). He also previously chaired the Indonesian Rectors Forum.
