Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have agreed to jointly develop the disputed Ambalat region while awaiting final legal resolution of the maritime border issue between the two countries.

Meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday (17/6/2025), the two leaders highlighted their commitment to a “mutually beneficial solution” through a joint-development mechanism.

“While legal discussions may take time, we’ve agreed to begin economic cooperation in Ambalat,” President Prabowo said. “Any discovered resources will be managed together for the benefit of both nations.”

Prime Minister Anwar echoed the sentiment, noting that legal talks could drag on for decades.

“Meanwhile, economic cooperation can begin and deliver tangible results for our people,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com

In addition to Ambalat, the leaders discussed broader border concerns, particularly between Kalimantan in Indonesia and Sabah in Malaysia.

Both maintained a shared vision for strengthening bilateral ties. The leaders held a one-on-one meeting followed by a bilateral session and official luncheon with delegations from both governments.
