President Prabowo Subianto has ordered a stronger national Family Planning (KB) program to regulate population growth and ensure more balanced birth rates across Indonesia, Minister of Population and Family Development/National Population and Family Planning Agency Wihaji after meeting the president at the State Palace on Tuesday (25/11/2025).

“President Prabowo’s main concern is how to manage population growth. Regulation is important,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com

Minister Wihaji noted that Indonesia’s Total Fertility Rate currently stands at 2.1, meaning that each woman gives birth to an average of two children. However, birth trends vary by region, with Jakarta already showing a lower figure of 1.8. Meanwhile, only 56.26% of married women used contraception in 2024.

He said that the government aims to control excessive population growth while assisting regions with declining fertility. He emphasized that public education on family planning will be essential to keep demographic growth stable and equitable.
