President Prabowo Subianto has called for stronger collaboration with India, including sending professors and specialist doctors to teach in Indonesia, during a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro on Monday (18/11/2024).
"We hope to strengthen ties with India, particularly through the contribution of professors and specialist doctors to enhance our universities," he said in a statement released on Tuesday (19/11/2024).
The discussion focused on key areas of cooperation, including healthcare, education, and trade, aimed at deepening bilateral relations, according to antaranews.com.
President Prabowo emphasized Indonesia’s pressing need for medical professionals, noting a shortage of 160,000 doctors. He welcomed India’s role in supporting healthcare education and investments in Indonesia’s pharmaceutical and hospital industries.
He also stressed the importance of increasing the number of Indonesian students studying in India and advancing educational partnerships.
On trade, President Prabowo urged the conclusion of a deal on rice imports from India, a critical issue for Indonesia.
"Indonesia and India have a long history of strong relations, and we remain committed to expanding cooperation across various sectors," he said.
