Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday (31/8/2025) stressed that while the government respects peaceful public dissent, it will not tolerate unlawful acts escalating into violence, looting, or even coup attempts.
“Aspirations expressed peacefully must be respected. The right to gather must be protected. However, it cannot be denied that there are symptoms of unlawful acts, even those leading to treason and terrorism,” he said in a press briefing at Merdeka Palace, as quoted by antaranews.com.
President Prabowo ordered the police and military to take firm action against rioters damaging public facilities, looting private property, and disrupting economic centers. At the same time, he reassured citizens that democratic space remains open for legitimate voices of dissent.
The president was flanked by former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, House Speaker Puan Maharani, People Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani, and leaders of major political parties.
