Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has dismissed Indra Sjafri as the head coach of the U-20 national team following the squad’s failure to advance beyond the group stage at the 2025 AFC U-20 Asian Cup.
PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir confirmed the decision on Sunday (23/2/2025), citing the team’s inability to meet the target of reaching the semifinals to secure a 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup spot.
“This decision was made after thorough evaluation. We thank Coach Indra for his contributions, but we must continue developing young talent,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Indonesia finished third in Group C with just one point, following defeats to Iran (0-3) and Uzbekistan (1-3) and a goalless draw against Yemen.
Despite the setback, ChairmanErick emphasized that coach Indra remains part of Indonesian football’s future. Coach Indra previously led Indonesia to the AFF U-19 titles in 2013 and 2024 and won the SEA Games gold in 2023.
