The police emphasize that sexual violence and domestic violence are not private matters that should be hidden. The courage of victims and the public to report is considered crucial so that victims receive protection and perpetrators can be prosecuted according to the law.
The Head of the Public Information of the Gorontalo Sub-regional City Police, Second Police Inspector Aristia Gani, stated that the impact of violence can be felt long-term by victims, especially women and children.
"Acts of sexual violence and domestic violence can have long-lasting negative impacts on victims, especially women and children," said Aristia in Gorontalo, Friday (7/25/2026).
According to her, violence not only causes physical suffering but can also leave trauma. Therefore, handling it requires concern and cooperation between the community and the police.
Aristia believes that the public's courage in reporting can help the police provide protection to victims while also identifying and prosecuting perpetrators.
He also encouraged the public to participate in preventing violence in their neighborhoods by utilizing the various available complaint services.
The role of parents is also considered crucial, especially in providing children with an understanding of how to protect themselves from violence and harassment.
"Parents must play an active role in educating children about the importance of self-care, recognizing the boundaries of body parts that should not be touched by others, and instilling the courage to say no to suspicious behavior," he said.
The police reminded the public that reporting violence is not limited to victims. Public who witness or know of suspected sexual violence or domestic violence are also urged to immediately report any incidents to the police.
The public should not be afraid to report various forms of crime, criminal acts, or disturbances to public order and security.
