"After the shooting and killing of civilians by the KKB on Monday, the Damai Cartenz Task Force deployed 42 personnel to evacuate the survivors and bodies of victims of the shooting," said Chief of Damai Cartenz Peace Operation Senior Superintendent Faizal Ramadhani, in a statement on Tuesday (17/10/23). He explained that the rescue and evacuation operation involved personnel from the Damai Cartenz Task Force, the Papua Regional Police's Mobile Brigade, and the Yahukimo Sub-regional Police. The operation was led by the Yahukimo Police Chief, Superintendent Heru Hidayanto. "Upon arrival at the scene, our personnel were attacked and engaged in a 1-hour 30-minute firefight," Chief Faizal said. He said that the task force would thoroughly investigate the KKB attack and arrest the perpetrators. Besides loss of life, the KKB led by Egianus Kogoya also set fire to 3 excavators, 2 trucks, and 1 campsite. "We will pursue the culprits and enforce the law against the KKB led by Egianus Kogoya," he asserted.
