Inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. Chief of the Yogyakarta Regiononal Police,Inspector General Suwondo Nainggolan has instructed the immediate evacuation of train coaches involved in an accident in Sukoreno Village, Kulon Progo Regency, to restore the normal flow of train travel.
The incident injured 31 passengers. As many as 28 passengers sustained minor injuries while three others were referred to Queen Latifah Hospital for medical treatments, antaranews.com reported.
"The Indonesian Police and KAI will investigate the cause of the train accident to prevent such incidents from happening in the future," he said at the Kalimenur Train Station command post in Kulon Progo on Tuesday (17/10/2023), referring to the state-owned railway operator.
The train accident involved the Argo Semeru train with had 472 passengers on board and Argo Wilis train that carried 288 passengeres was triggered by the derailment of the Argo Semeru train, traveling from Surabaya to Jakarta. It subsequently collided with the Argo Wilis train, en route from Bandung to Surabaya. the Argo Semeru train carried a total of 472 passengers, while the Argo Wilis 288 passengers.
The Kulonprogo Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Nunuk Setiyowati said te passengers had been evacuated using the airport train to Wates Station.
