Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Riau Islands Prosecutor's Office has dismissed a drug case against Saudi national Alnadwi Abdulghani Mofareh N under a restorative justice approach, the first time such an approach has been applied to a drug case there.
The decision was approved by the Office of the Attorney General’s Deputy for General Crimes on 30 October 2024.
According to Yusnar Yusuf ,the Riau Islands Prosecutor’s Office Head of Legal Information, the decision aligns with the Indonesian Attorney General’s Directive No. 18 of 2021, which permits case dismissal and rehabilitation for qualified drug users. “
This is our first drug case resolved through restorative justice,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com..
Alnadwi, arrested in August with 1.1 and 1.6 grams of marijuana, met the criteria as a self-user with no prior drug offenses. A comprehensive assessment determined he was suitable for rehabilitation, fulfilling additional criteria including clean legal records and positive community support.
The Batam Prosecutor’s Office will issue a formal case resolution document under the restorative justice framework
