Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Foreign nationals holding Permanent Stay Permits (ITAP) and Limited Stay Permits (ITAS) can now use immigration autogates at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, according to Acting Director General of Immigration, Saffar M. Godam, on Saturday (2/1/1/2024).
The change came as part of Indonesia's efforts to streamline immigration services. Previously, only those with e-Visas or Visa-Free Visit (BVK) access could use autogates, while ITAP and ITAS holders had to go through staffed counters.
"Now, ITAP and ITAS holders can experience faster, more efficient processing," Saffar said, emphasizing that the autogate process takes about 15–25 seconds per person.
Between January and September 2024, around 3.5 million foreign nationals used autogates, averaging nearly 390,000 users monthly. Currently, 78 autogates operate at Soekarno-Hatta and 90 at Ngurah Rai, according to antaranews.com.
Saffar noted that digitalization efforts also support online visa applications and biometric data collection, making travel to Indonesia more accessible while maintaining security through facial recognition technology.
