Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Para-athlete Saptoyogo Purnomo won a silver medal in the men’s 100 meters T37 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, clocking 11.26 seconds at Stade de France on August 30, 2024.
Initially targeted for a bronze medal, matching his previous performance at Tokyo 2020, Saptoyogo improved his timing from the qualifying round where he placed third with 11.35 seconds, according to antaranews.com.
He surpassed this mark in the final but was edged out by Brazil's Ricardo Gomes de Mendonca, who won gold with 11.07 seconds.
Saptoyogo's 11.26-second finish not only earned him silver but also broke his own Asian Para Games record from 2022, where he had won gold with a time of 11.28 seconds.
Despite concerns over performance due to rain affecting muscle function, Saptoyogo exceeded expectations. His coach, Purwo Adi Sanyoto, praised his perseverance and exceptional performance, noting that Saptoyogo's strong start and reaction times contributed to his success.
Saptoyogo will compete in the men’s 200 meters T37 event.
