Inp.polri.go.id - Lumajang. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted 16 times between 12.31 am and 8.42 am on Wednesday (3/12/2025), with the highest ash column soaring 1,100 meters above the summit.
The first eruption sent ash 500 meters high, while the latest, at 08:42, was obscured by heavy fog. Officials confirmed ongoing activity throughout the morning.
“The highest eruption occurred at 05:55, with the ash column reaching 4,776 meters above sea level,” said Liswanto, an officer at the Mount Semeru Observation Post, in a written statement quoted by antaranews.com.
The Geological Agency recorded 53 eruption quakes, 26 avalanche quakes, and one emission quake during the early monitoring window. Mount Semeru remains at Level III (Siaga), and authorities urged the public to avoid the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan for 13 kilometers and maintain a 5-kilometer radius from the crater due to risks of ash clouds, lava avalanches, and volcanic mudflow.
