inp.polri.go.id - Nabire. The Nabire Sub-regional Police solved the murder of a junior high school student approximately seven hours after receiving a report of the victim's discovery on Waroki street, Nabire Regency.
Nabire Sub-regional Police Vice Chief, Police Assistant Superintendent Piter Kendek, stated that the report was received around 8:00 PM on Thursday (7/30/2026), and a police team arrived at the scene around 8:15 PM to conduct a crime scene investigation.
"At 8:15 PM, officers and I were already at the scene to conduct an initial inspection and conduct a crime scene investigation," he said in Nabire on Friday (7/31/2026).
The victim was found face down with burns on her head, hair, and body.
The police then evacuated the body to the hospital for identification.
According to Piter, identification was hampered by the victim's facial features, so investigators used fingerprints until the victim's initials were identified as CKC, and the family was contacted.
After the victim's identity was established, investigators gathered evidence, including reviewing CCTV footage that pointed to a school friend.
"The CCTV footage revealed clues that pointed to the victim's boyfriend. From there, officers took action and successfully apprehended him," he said.
Piter said the alleged perpetrator, identified as AWS, was apprehended around 3:00 AM, approximately seven hours after the report was received.
Based on preliminary investigation results, investigators suspect the victim was taken to an area near Napan Beach before allegedly being murdered and her body burned.
Investigators have charged AWS with premeditated murder under Article 459 of the Indonesian Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Toraja Family Association of Nabire Regency, Yulianus Passang, urged the public to entrust the handling of the case to law enforcement officers and not to be provoked by unverified information.
