Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck the Sarmi Regency region in Papua on Tuesday morning (28/7/2026).
According to reports from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the seismic event occurred at approximately 5.57 am. The epicenter was located at coordinates 1.85 South Latitude and 139.15 East Longitude, about 68 kilometers northwest of Sarmi, Papua.
BMKG confirmed that the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 16 kilometers.

The agency added that early automated disclosures prioritize speed and remain subject to minor adjustments as additional monitoring data is processed.
There were no immediate reports of structural damage or casualties following the shallow quake.
