Inp.polri.go.id - Sikka. The Sikka Sub-regional Police initiated immediate emergency operations and damage assessments following a powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), at 6.13 am on Saturday (15/8/2026).

According to BMKG data, the updated M7.7 seismic event occurred at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers with tsunami potential. Sikka Police Chief Superintendent Bambang Supeno personally led officers into affected zones, identifying significant structural damage at Lorens Say Port in Maumere.

"East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Darmoko instructed all ranks to act swiftly, responsively, and prioritize public safety during post-earthquake response," said East Nusa Tenggara Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Henry Novika Chandra.

Officers alongside joint emergency personnel remain deployed across damaged areas to conduct search and rescue operations, assist in resident evacuations, and compile verified casualty figures.

Police also urged local residents to stay calm and follow official guidance from the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and emergency responders.
