Sorong Police Heighten Patrols Post-KPK Bust Operation on Regent

In the wake of a recent Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) bust operation targeting Acting Regent Yan Piet Mosso  and five others, the Sorong Sub-regional Police in Southwest Papua has been increasing routine patrols to anticipate potential unrest. The enhanced patrols focus on key areas, including the residence of the Sorong Regent, the Regent's Office, and other strategic locations, antaranews.com reported. "Our patrols are intensified to prevent any undesirable incidents," said Sorong Police Chief Superintendent Yohanes Agustiandaru on Tuesday (14/11/2023). He urged the public and families of those involved in the operation to remain patient and entrust the legal handling of the case entirely to the KPK. KPK investigators arrested the regent, the Head of the Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD) of Sorong Regency, Efer Segidifat, the secretary of BPKAD Sorong Regency, and two officials from BPK (Supreme Audit Board) representing the West Papua Province who were caught in the act in the act engaging in bribery and financial irregularities in the Sorong regency administration. KPK detained the six suspects for the initial 20 days, starting from November 14, 2023, until December 3, 2023, at the KPK Detention Center. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
