South Sumatra Regional Police Increase Supervision of Trade in Medical Devices and Drugs on the Market Along with the Spike in Covid-19 Cases

The South Sumatra Regional Police are trying to improve supervision of drug and oxygen trade in the market in the face of increasing public demand for these goods in line with the recent surge in positive cases of Covid-19. South Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General. Pol. Eko Indra Heri, explained that the team that had been deployed since the last month was quite effective and proved no action of hoarding drugs and oxygen was found, however, surveillance activities would be increased so as to completely close the gaps in the goods trading game, Thursday (07/22/ 2021). The two-star general explained that to carry out the surveillance, the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate team and ranks were ordered to intensively go to pharmacies, distributors of pharmaceutical companies and two medical oxygen factories in South Sumatra. "Through these efforts, thank God, until now there have been no games or acts of hoarding the goods and the increase in the price of drugs beyond the provisions of the highest retail price (HET)," explained the South Sumatra Police Chief. The South Sumatra Police Chief explained that the team was ordered to carry out surveillance to ensure that the stock of drugs and oxygen were available in sufficient quantities and that prices did not rise beyond the normal limits. In the condition of a surge in positive cases of Covid-19 in the province with 17 regencies/cities, the demand for oxygen and drugs that can overcome the virus has increased. By increasing police operations, it is hoped that shortages and price games can be anticipated that can burden the community. “If there are businessmen or anyone who is proven to play price games, hoard drugs and oxygen, they will be dealt with according to Law chapter 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection in conjunction with Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia 98 year 2015 Regarding the Provision of Drug highest retails price Information," said the South Sumatra Regional Police Chief.
