South Sumatra Regional Police Uncovers NIK Data Seller Syndicate

Inp.polri.go.id – South Sumatra. The South Sumatra Regional Police have handled the syndicate who sells Population Identification Number (NIK) data through WhatsApp accounts.

“The syndicate consists of seven people who sold NIK, registered in the WhatsApp account number to foreign countries, such as China,” said the Head of South Sumatra Regional Police PR Chief, Senior Superintendent Sunarto on Tuesday (4/30/2024).

The syndicate was led by a suspect with the initials of NOV. NOV stated that they learned the transaction system through YouTube.

NOV and their partners were arrested by the police in Borang, Palembang City along with the evidence.

Reportedly, the syndicate could sell 50,000 WhatsApp accounts per day with an income of IDR 5,000,000.

The evidence secured by the police are nine units of cellphones, five unit of computers, a broken laptop, five mouses, six keyboards and USB Hub, along with three units of wifi routers, and power supply.

The seven suspects will be charged with Article 36 paragraph 2 and/or Article 35 in conjunction with Article 45 of the ITE Law was amended by Republic of Indonesia Law Number 4 of 2024 concerning ITE in conjunction with Article 55 and Article 56 with the threat of imprisonment for 12 years and a fine of IDR 12 billion.
