Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government is intensifying cross-agency coordination to prevent unilateral foreign claims on national heritage through a new Intellectual Property roadmap.
Speaking in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5/2026), Deputy Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, and Immigration Otto Hasibuan said that the framework aims to provide robust legal protection both domestically and internationally.
"A large portion of our Intellectual Property rights are not actually on record," he noted, highlighting that unregistered assets are vulnerable to misappropriation, as cited by antaranews.com.
He cited past disputes over Gondang music and Batik as evidence that a lack of formal documentation weakens Indonesia's position in global cultural conflicts.
The new roadmap seeks to unify inter-agency policies and accelerate the registration of cultural assets. This integrated approach is expected to close legal gaps, ensure global recognition of Indonesian identity, and generate economic value by safeguarding the nation's creative economy from unauthorized exploitation.
