inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas), reminded the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), which run the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, to source food supplies from villages to boost the local economy.

"SPPG management must source goods from villages, whether from Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), village cooperatives, or MSMEs," said the Coordinating Minister for Food, Friday (4/17/2026). He explained that the policy aims to create a mutually reinforcing economic chain.

According to Zulhas, the MBG program not only impacts children's health but also encourages the growth of village businesses and achieves food sovereignty.

He further stated that integrating nutrition programs and strengthening the village economy is a strategic step towards creating sustainable food security.

Village businesses directly involved in providing raw food materials for SPPGs create a shorter, more efficient food supply chain that directly impacts the welfare of village communities.

"The nutritious meal program isn't just about providing food, but also about contributing to Indonesia's great future," said Zulhas.

According to data from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), of the 28,562 planned SPPG units, 23,597 are currently operational, representing 83 percent of the total planned SPPG development.

Meanwhile, only 7,204 SPPG units have obtained a Hygiene Sanitation Certificate (SLHS) across Indonesia. West Nusa Tenggara has the highest ratio of SLHS to operational SPPG units, with a figure of 65.64 percent.
