Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Supreme Court has authorized single-judge panels in district courts to address a shortage of judges handling a surge in cases.
“The high caseload at first-instance courts indicates a shortage of judges. To address this, the Supreme Court has issued a special permit for single-judge panels,” Chief Justice Sunarto said during the 2024 Annual Report presentation in on Wednesday (19/2/2025).

In 2024, district courts faced a caseload of 2.99 million cases, including 2.92 million new filings and 63,932 pending cases from 2023. A total of 5,804 judges and 350 ad hoc judges handled the workload, averaging 1,547 cases per judge annually, as reported by antaranews.com.
Of the total cases, 2.85 million were resolved, with 73,122 cases still pending, yielding a 97.56% case resolution rate. For appeal courts and tax courts, the resolution rate reached 80.56%, marking a 5.08% improvement from 2023.
