Inp.polri.go.id - Malang. The Malang Sub-regional Police have charged 10 pesilat, including four adults and six minors, in connection with the fatal beating of a 17-year-old teen, ASA, from Kepuharjo village, Karangploso District.

Pesilat means someone who is trained in and practices the techniques and disciplines of Indonesian martial arts, pencak silat.

Malang Police Deputy Chief, Senior Inspector Imam Mustolih, revealed on Friday (13/9/2024) that the adults, identified as ARG (19), S (20), ICS (25), MAY (19), and six minors, were involved in the attacks.

The assaults took place on two separate occasions—on 4 September and 5 September, 2024—both in Karangploso, Malang.

The victim was attacked after being forced to clarify his non-membership in a silat martial arts group, despite posting a video wearing its attire, according to antaranews.com.

Following six days in the hospital, ASA succumbed to his injuries on 12 September 2024. The beatings caused severe brain damage, internal bleeding, and lung trauma.

The suspects have been charged under child protection and assault laws, facing up to 15 years in prison and fines of up to Rp 3 billion.
