Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen qualified for the 2025 US Open main draw after a commanding win over Japan’s Aoi Ito in the final qualifying round on Friday night local time.
The 23-year-old Jakarta-born player, ranked World No.147, dismantled Ito, the third seed, 6-1, 6-2 at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center in just 49 minutes, antaranews.com reported on Saturday (23/8/2025).
Janice hit four aces, saved five of six break points, and remarkably committed no unforced errors.
Her qualification ends Indonesia’s 21-year absence in the women’s singles main draw of a Grand Slam since Angelique Widjaja’s US Open appearance in 2004. Janice enters New York in peak form, having reached back-to-back finals in Lexington and Landisville earlier this month and collecting six ITF singles titles this season.
Janice, also the 2023 Asian Games women’s doubles bronze medalist with Aldila Sutjiadi, was named ITF Player of the Month in May and June after an impressive 42-set unbeaten streak.
