Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta The Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM, Bahlil Lahadalia, said on Monday (25/9/2023) that TikTok was not a place for selling or conducting business because it only secured permits as a social media platform.
"The permit used by TikTok is not for doing business; it's a social media platform," he said to reporters as reported by antaranews.com, adding that the government would revoke the permit of the Chinese social media platform if it continues to be used for buying and selling activities.
The social commerce, including TikTok Shop, has been made a scapegoat for causing sales and production in the realm of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs )and conventional markets to plummet due to tough competition from foreign products sold at significantly lower prices.
Earlier on Monday, the Ministry of Trade has issued the revision to Regulation of the Minister of Trade Number 50 of 2020, which bans social commerce platforms from facilitating trade transactions.
In this revision, social commerce is only allowed to promote goods or services but is prohibited from providing transaction facilities for users.
Minister Bahlil firmly rejects any negotiations with TikTok over compliance with Indonesia's regulations. He welcomed TikTok to exit if they disagree with these rules, emphasizing that adherence to the country's regulations is paramount.
He called on celebrities and public figures to promote both domestic and foreign products while maintaining a balanced marketplace, emphasizing the need for balance to prevent an oversaturation of imported goods.
