Inp.polri.go.id - Timika. The Indonesian Military (TNI) killed 14 members of the separatist Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) during a firefight in Soanggama Village, Homeyo District, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua, on Wednesday.

“The operation was carried out in a coordinated and measured manner to enforce security and protect civilians from acts of terror and violence by the armed group,” said Lieutenant ColonelIwan Dwi Prihartono, the Commander of the Habema Task Force, in a statement on Thursday (16/10/2025)t. “By 12 pm, the situation was under control, and the OPM was repelled.”

TNI forces had moved into Soanggama to free residents living under OPM pressure. Of the 30 OPM members controlling the village, 14 were killed, including leaders and individuals previously involved in attacks against security forces. Authorities also seized weapons and documents linked to OPM membership, according to antaranews.com.

The village will now serve as a TNI tactical post to maintain security and stability, ensuring civilians can resume daily activities safely.
