Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Heavy rainfall has triggered massive landslides across six locations along the Trans-Papua Highway, completely severing the vital land link between Jayapura and Wamena.

Papua Regional Police reported on Monday (9/2/2026) that the disaster, caused by intense precipitation since 7 February 2026, has washed away the Kali Kil Bridge and buried several logistics vehicles under debris. While one truck was swept away by currents, no fatalities have been reported as drivers successfully escaped to safety.

"Road users from both Jayapura and Wamena are urged to stay away from the landslide zones for their safety and to avoid obstructing heavy machinery operations," said Papua Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Cahyo Sukarnito on Monday (9/2/2026), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Search and rescue teams from the Yalimo Sub-regional Police and  PT Hutama Kary, have deployed heavy equipment to evacuate trapped vehicles and clear the "Yahuli" and "Camp Pemilu" inclines.

Authorities warn that the soil remains highly unstable, posing a significant risk of follow-up landslides. Logistical distribution to the central highlands is currently at a total standstill as emergency repairs continue under volatile weather conditions.
