Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has issued an urgent directive to the Jakarta Transportation  Office and the Bina Marga Office to repair hazardous potholes across the capital immediately, regardless of weather conditions. 

The direction was a response to a tragic accident on Monday morning in Matraman, East Jakarta, where a student died after reportedly losing control of a motorcycle due to damaged road surfaces.

"I have ordered that the existing holes be handled; most have already been covered," Governor Pramono said during a visit to East Jakarta on Monday(9/2/2026). He apologized to residents, acknowledging that current asphalt technology often degrades when exposed to high-intensity rain and heavy traffic loads, meaning some repairs may "loosen again" if heavy downpours continue.

Witnesses at the Matraman site noted that the road had been frequently patched but lacked comprehensive resurfacing, creating an uneven and lethal terrain for two-wheeled vehicles. 

Local authorities are now prioritizing high-traffic corridors to prevent further casualties while the city grapples with the seasonal rainfall impact on urban infrastructure.
