Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono revealed on Wednesdau (14/2/2024) that both the Tunisian government and a water association from Portugal have expressed their willingness to attend the 10th World Water Forum scheduled for May 2024 in Bali.
"I have personally extended the invitation, and, God willing, Tunisia will participate," he said.
Minister Basuki underscored the longstanding special relationship between Indonesia and Tunisia, dating back to the era of Indonesia's first president, Soekarno, antaranews.com reported.
"President Soekarno contributed financially to Tunisia's independence in 1957. Since then, our nations have shared a special bond. During my visit to Tunisia, I was received with utmost hospitality, akin to a head of state," he emphasized.
Apart from Soekarno, former Indonesian presidents Megawati Soekarnoputri and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono have also visited Tunisia.
"While the Tunisian president has never visited Indonesia, we hope that they will grace the World Water Forum with their presence. Similarly, Portugal has shown interest through a water association, which we've invited and confirmed their willingness to attend," Minister Basuki added.
The 10th World Water Forum, themed "Water for Shared Prosperity," is slated to occur from 18 to 25 May 2024.
During the forum, Indonesia, alongside other member countries of the World Water Council, aims to devise strategies and approaches to address water-related challenges.
