inp.polri.go.id - Kendari. The Kendari Sub-regional City Police Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating the discovery of an unidentified male body in Kendari Bay, Southeast Sulawesi.
The Head of the Kendari Sub-regional City Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Police Assistant Superintendent Welliwanto Malau, stated that the body was found floating on the coast, specifically under a mangrove tree on Madusila Street, Wundumbatu Village, Poasia District, at around 6:30 a.m.
"The discovery of the body was first reported by a witness in the area. When found, the victim was lying face down and his body was starting to swell," said Welliwanto in Kendari on Friday (8/21/2026).
He explained that the man's body was found wearing a green shirt and matching shorts.
According to witness Ahmad Anwari (50), the discovery began when he was on his way to the bathroom and passed by the karate training area.
"The witness saw a suspicious object floating under a mangrove tree toward the sea," he said.
Ahmad then called his colleague, Muhammad Jabal Nur (26), to confirm the discovery.
After confirming that the object was a human body, the two reported the incident to a local business owner, who then forwarded the information to Poasia Sector Police personnel.
"After receiving a report, police personnel arrived at the crime scene (TKP) at around 6:50 a.m. to secure the area and set up police tape," he said.
Personnel at the location then collect the data and conduct a crime scene investigation.
The body was recovered at around 7:45 a.m. by the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Team from Bhayangkara Kendari Hospital and taken to the hospital for further treatment.
"Officers in the field have recorded the identities of witnesses, conducted a crime scene investigation, and submitted a request for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death," said Welliwanto.
