Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia U-23 national football team head coach Gerald Vanenburg is building his squad with a comprehensive and adaptable strategy ahead of the AFF U-23 Championship, emphasizing a holistic approach that balances physical, technical, tactical, and mental strength.
“Everything must be there. Not just physical or technical. It’s a complete plan,” he said on Monday (23/6/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The Dutch coach highlighted the need for players to be resilient, mentally sharp, and capable of adapting to modern football demands. He also values diverse player characteristics, rejecting the idea of a uniform team style.
“Players are not the same, and we don’t need them to be. I’m happy with the variety we have,” Coach Vanenburg noted.
The 28-player squad, mostly from Liga 1, will train from 20 June to July 2024. Indonesia will face Brunei, the Philippines, and Malaysia in Group A, with all matches set at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
