inp.polri.go.id - Blora. A man is currently being hunted by police after allegedly using counterfeit money to make transactions with traders in Blora Regency, Central Java. Investigators have identified the man, and the case is still under investigation.
The case came to light after a vegetable vendor reported a suspicious transaction. Police have also secured a quantity of allegedly counterfeit money as evidence.
Blora Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, Police Senior Inspector Zaenul Arifin, said investigators are still investigating the case to identify the perpetrator and the possibility of similar transactions in other locations.
"We are still investigating, and the allegedly counterfeit money has been secured," he said in Blora on Saturday (9/26/2026).
The incident began when Yami (58), a vegetable vendor from Growong Hamlet, Sukorejo Village, Tunjungan District, was selling on Dr. Sutomo, directly in front of the Blora Indonesian Red Cross Blood Donation Unit.
On Monday (9/14/2026) at around 10:00 a.m., a man arrived on a motorcycle and purchased a package of quail eggs for IDR 10,000.
The man paid with a IDR 100,000 bill. Yami then gave him IDR 90,000 in change.
Shortly afterward, the man asked to exchange two IDR 100,000 bills for four IDR 50,000 bills. Yami became suspicious because the money the man was carrying appeared new.
Nevertheless, the transaction went ahead. Yami's suspicions only grew after the man left the premises.
Yami then examined the money he received and found several irregularities. The surface of the money felt slippery, while the adhesive on the notes appeared to have come loose.
To confirm its authenticity, Yami used an ultraviolet light detector. The results indicated that the money was not genuine and was suspected to be counterfeit.
From the report, police obtained the characteristics of the man suspected of using counterfeit money. The man is described as tall and large, standing approximately 175 centimeters tall and weighing approximately 85 kilograms. He was wearing a jacket and helmet during the transaction.
Police are still searching for the man and investigating the possibility of transactions involving counterfeit money at other locations.
Investigators have secured a number of the suspected counterfeit bills as evidence to support the investigation.
