inp.polri.go.id - Manggarai. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming expressed his appreciation for the concern and involvement of students and young people in assisting the recovery of disaster-affected communities in the Flores region of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The Vice President expressed his appreciation while visiting the Golo Cenggo Post in Reok District, Manggarai Regency on Friday (8/21/2026), and observing firsthand the conditions and needs of the affected community.
"I truly appreciate the concern and dedication of my fellow students who are willing to help with the recovery of our fellow Indonesians in NTT," he said.
As part of this support, the Vice President is facilitating six students from the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Indonesia (UI) to provide initial psychological assistance to children affected by the disaster.
The students will be on site for one week to assist the children through child-friendly approaches, including playing, storytelling, singing, and simple group games.
"These students will stay here for one week and will help provide (initial psychological assistance) to the refugees, especially the children," explained the Vice President.
The assistance was aimed at helping create a sense of safety and comfort for the children while in the evacuation center.
The students also provided a space for the children to express their feelings and experiences without having to recount the disaster, while also conducting observations to identify any potential need for further psychosocial support.
The students have been accompanying the Vice President's activities since his working visit to Sikka Regency on Thursday (8/20/2026) and then continued their assistance during the Vice President's agenda in the Manggarai and East Manggarai regions. This involvement is part of the youth's support in assisting the community using their skills and capacities.
The Vice President encouraged the continued strengthening of youth participation in disaster management and coordinated efforts with local governments and relevant parties. He stated that a spirit of mutual cooperation from various elements of society is necessary to support emergency response and accelerate the recovery process for affected communities.
