Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A viral YouTube video claiming a 10-meter tsunami swept through the coastal areas of Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on 1 July 2026, is completely false.
A fact-checking review conducted by Tempo.co verified that the video was digitally manipulated and fabricated using footage from unrelated incidents in different locations. The Operations Control Center of the Yogyakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (Pusdalops BPBD Yogyakarta) confirmed no tsunami occurred in the area.
Furthermore, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) data from Yogyakarta International Airport showed that wave heights in southern Yogyakarta waters from 1 to 4 July2026, only ranged between 2.5 and 4 meters, with no tsunami warnings issued. Authorities urged the public to monitor legitimate disaster updates through "Pamor," the official mobile application of BPBD Yogyakarta.
