The West Java Regional Police Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team on Sunday (18/1/2026) collected DNA samples from the family of an ATR 42-500 cabin crew member who died in a plane crash on Mount Bulusaraung, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, to support the formal identification process.
“Our DVI officers are at the victim’s family residence to collect ante-mortem data and comparative DNA samples as part of the scientific identification procedure,” said West Java Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Hendra Rochmawan, as reported by antaranew.com
The sampling was conducted at the family home in Caringin District, Bogor Regency, involving close relatives of Esther Aprilita S, who was listed as a cabin crew member on the Indonesia Air Transport flight. The effort aims to ensure accurate identification in coordination with the joint SAR and forensic teams.
The ATR aircraft, carrying 11 people, lost contact while flying from Yogyakarta to Makassar on Saturday. Wreckage has since been located in mountainous terrain, and search and recovery operations remain ongoing.
