Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) canceled 82 passenger train services after flooding inundated rail tracks in the Semarang Operational Area, particularly in Pekalongan, Central Java, caused by a levee breach combined with high tidal waters over the weekend.
“Extreme weather over the past two to three days has disrupted our operations, affecting 82 passenger trains, 16 freight trains canceled, and causing delays to 76 other services,” PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said on Sunday (18/1/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
The disruption occurred when floodwaters submerged tracks between Kaliwungu–Kalibodri and Pekalongan–Sragi stations after a levee collapsed while seawater tides were high, preventing runoff from draining to the coast. Initial recovery efforts briefly restored the line, but conditions worsened overnight due to river overflow.
PT KAI has reopened the affected section with speed restrictions and is coordinating with relevant authorities to carry out permanent repairs starting Monday, while also providing passenger refunds and service recovery measures.
