inp.polri.go.id - The West Sumatra Regional Police held a contest to eradicate gambling for both the personnel at the West Sumatra Police and the Resort Polices in West Sumatra. Head of Public Relations of the West Sumatra Police, Commissioner Dwi Sulistyawan said “whoever have the most in the disclosure of gambling cases, they will be rewarded by the Police Chief.” The West Sumatra Police are currently keen to eradicate gambling in the land of Minang. The competition was held to boost their motivation in uncovering the gambling case. "Not only that, people who find gambling cases in their neighborhood and report it to the nearest police officer will also get a reward," said the Head of Public Relations, Friday (19/08/2022). Commissioner Dwi Sulistyawan explained that eradicating gambling cases had become the attention of the West Sumatra Police Chief. As of last Friday, there have been 169 gambling cases revealed by the West Sumatra Police with 294 suspects arrested. He warned that no police personnel should be involved in gambling cases, let alone become their backings. He also appealed to the public to stay away from all forms of gambling. Gambling, he explained, is prohibited by religious and state regulations and is not in accordance with the traditional value of life of the Minangkabau people. "Gambling only caused suffering, because it is feared that if the gambling players run out of money, they will commit other criminal acts that will endanger the community," explained the Head of Public Relations.
