inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) considers the Australian government to be a strong and consistent ASEAN partner in joint efforts to combat transnational crime.
In the 4th ASEAN-Australia Counter Terrorism Dialogue Meeting in Jakarta, Tuesday (27/5), Deputy for International Cooperation of BNPT RI Andhika Chrisnayudhanto said that Indonesia through BNPT has been working intensively with the Australian government in facing the challenges of combating terrorism and violent extremism in the region.
"Australia is a very robust ASEAN dialogue partner in establishing cooperation to combat terrorism and violent extremism with ASEAN countries. This intensive cooperation is reflected in the many concrete cooperation initiatives," said Andhika, as quoted from Antaranews, Jakarta, Tuesday (6/3/2025).
Australia's strong commitment to continue working together to combat terrorism in Southeast Asia was also reaffirmed by the Australian Ambassador for Counterterrorism Issues Gemma Huggins.
He stressed that Southeast Asia is strategically important for Australia's future, so a stable region is needed where ASEAN plays a leading role.
"Therefore, Australia supports ASEAN-led initiatives to address transnational challenges, including terrorism, through the ASEAN-Australia framework which is expected to reach a mature stage," Huggins said on the same occasion.
The meeting also approved Australia's proposal to expand cooperation in several areas, namely terrorism threat assessment and open source intelligence gathering, protection of vulnerable targets and public spaces, addressing the misuse of new and emerging technologies, the use of sport in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE) efforts, and countering terrorist finance and donation networks.
