Inp.polri.go.id - Semarang. Central Java Regional Police have clarified their stance on punk band Sukatani’s song Bayar Bayar Bayar, literally means Pay Pay Pay, which criticizes certain police officers.
Central Java Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Artanto confirmed on Friday (21/2/2025) that the Cyber Directorate had engaged with the band.
“We respect artistic expression and free speech,” he said, emphasizing that the police did not summon the band for questioning or engage in intimidation.
Sukatani, a punk band from Central Java’s Purbalingga, later apologized via social media, addressing Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and the institution.
Chief Sigit has said that the police are open to criticism, viewing it as constructive input for evaluation. He emphasized that the police remain receptive, focusing on making necessary improvements, and are prepared to provide clarifications if any misunderstandings arise.
The song, which includes lyrics about bribing police for traffic fines, has since been removed from streaming platforms. The band also urged social media users to delete content featuring the song to avoid potential consequences
